Employee Safety and Chief Safety Officer Role

A member leader asked an interesting question today related to employee safety. How are member companies organizing their plans, strategy, and response to employee safety over the long term?

Are your services organizations creating new roles or teams to focus on short-term and long-term employee safety (i.e. field service employees)? Or is employee safety a distributed responsibility currently across many different departments?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Our company has had a Chief Safety Officer role for several years, who has typically lived in the Facilities department with representatives/volunteers from all departments. The current focus is on the return to the office using a phased approach starting in a few months to ensure safety. The question does invite the need for a more strategic approach with specific guidelines for emergency situations where the guidelines may change daily. This is an interesting question with a growing need so I'm hoping to hear what companies are doing.
